Cleaning Robot Mop and Vacuum Combo
Most robot vacuums or mop cleaners come with an app which lets you save maps of your house and organize cleaning schedules, and then select mopping mode. Some models with dual rotating pads also return to the dock to clean their brushes and dispose of dirty water.
If your model uses pads that are reusable, take them off and wash them (if safe) every several cleaning cycles to prevent bacteria buildup. Also, you'll want to clean the tray that they are sitting on between cleanings.
Preparation
Many robot mops feature pads that are soaked with cleaning solution and pass over the floor, scrubbing or brushing to get rid of sticky marks and other spots. To stop the growth of bacteria up and to prevent them from smelling, the pads should be cleaned and removed between usage (if they can be washed). Some models also have brushes on the sides and bottom of the robot, which need to be washed or rinsed after every few cleaning cycles.
The most effective 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop combos are simple to use and come with features that reduce the amount of maintenance needed after cleaning. They include automatic emptying of the dustbin docks, self-cleaning pads, and self-cleaning pads which ensure that your robot is ready to mop immediately after a cleaning cycle. If you want your robot's sensors to be able navigate and avoid obstacles, clean them using a soft towel or cloth every couple of cycles. This step will help remove dust that can block sensors and cause mistakes.
If you have carpets, be sure to select a robot mop that is compatible with them. The majority of robot mops work on hard surfaces, but those which can also vacuum or scrub floors might require reprogramming to recognize or avoid carpets. Some robotic vacuum cleaners and mop cleaners have mapping features. This lets you see the areas that your robot has cleaned, and also those it hasn't.
The majority of apps-connected robots mop use sensors to navigate through the home and avoid obstacles, however, they can become confused or lost. It is important to update the mopping app frequently with the latest software releases to ensure that your robot has the best ability to navigate and avoid obstacles. Before you buy a robot we recommend creating an obstacle course in your home to check its performance.
Most robot mops have two tanks, one for clean water and the other for dirty water. The tank that is dirty has to be emptied and filled frequently. The tanks can be lifted from the base which makes it easier to clean and wash them with mild soap and warm water. The majority of models have a drip tray underneath the dirty tank to collect any liquid spilled. It is recommended that you empty your drip tray every cleaning cycle to prevent bacteria from developing.
Cleaning the Water Tank

The majority of robot mop, vacuum combinations, and robot mops utilize a water reservoir for cleaning. The majority of manufacturers recommend cleaning the tank on a regular basis, depending on the frequency you use your robot. This is essential for bots that you want last for a long time. Some brands, such as the top choices of our ratings, come with removable, washable tank to remove dirt water and allow the tank to dry between cleaning sessions.
Many of the latest mop-vacs we tested can be used with an app that lets you save your home's maps, set cleaning schedules or select cleaning modes. This is something we look for when selecting a model, as it makes setting up and using your robot cleaner much simpler. If the robot you select does not come with an app, it's still possible to control the basic functions of the bot using buttons or a remote.
All the newer models that we've tested can vacuum up dirt and dust from a variety of surfaces. This is a big improvement over the previous versions of robot cleaners which mostly pushed water pads across the floor. These machines are not meant to take on large spills. They must be cleaned manually. They aren't able to move furniture and could get lost in rooms that have a lot of clutter.
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer to remove and wash the brushes that are located on the bottom or sides of the latest bots (typically a damp microfiber towel). Sensors are also used by most bots to navigate the floor and avoid obstacles. To ensure that the sensors function properly, it's recommended to clean the sensors after every few cleaning cycles using a soft, clean cloth - especially the areas where sensors are placed against the floor.
Finally, while it is possible to add other cleaners into your robot's tank (for instance, vinegar) We recommend against doing this unless the manufacturer has recommended it. This could cause damage to the robot and can cause the warranty to be voided.
Cleaning the Drip Tray
If your robot vacuum and mop combination comes with a dock that also doubles as water tank, you'll have to keep it clean regularly. The dock can accumulate dirt, grit and debris that will need to be cleaned and removed after the mop has finished. A majority of our choices have a self-cleaning feature that you can use via the app or the button on the mop. This keeps the tank clean and prevents mildew from developing.
The dock area which washes the pads must be cleaned every now and thenit could become slimy and smell unpleasant if left wet for a long time. If your model uses disposable or washable mop pads ensure that you wash them according to the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning cycles. This is also true for hybrid mop/vacuum models which use brushes on the bottom and sides of the unit. Take the brushes out and clean them with a rag or cloth after each cleaning cycle.
Some of the more advanced robot vacuum-mop combos we've tested have sensors that allow them to navigate floors and avoid obstacles, but it's still essential to clean off the sensor areas regularly. This will keep dust and grime blocking the sensors, which can cause them to make incorrect judgments.
While vacuum bot and mop machines require some work they are an excellent option for busy homeowners. They can keep floors looking great and reduce the necessity for heavy lifting, and save you the most valuable resource in a home -- your free time.
While there are a few new companies that are trying to build better robot vacuum-mop units but they still have some way to go before they reach our standard of quality. But we do expect these robots to improve in time, just as the other robot vacuums in the past.
Brushes to be cleaned
Just like a vacuum cleaner it is important to maintain your mop and cleaning robot vacuum combo so it keeps functioning properly. Clean sensors to make it easier to navigate, empty and rinse the water tank, remove pet hair clogs off of brushes, keep charge ports clean and replace the filter and rollers as suggested by the manufacturer. These tips will ensure that your robot mop and vacuum performs well for a lengthy period of time.
Carolyn Forte, Executive Director of the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Care & Cleaning Lab reviews and tests cleaning equipment in the Laboratory. This includes robot vacuum and mop combinations. Her team has been testing products and providing recommendations for them for more than forty years.
Combinations of robot vacuums and mops are ideal to clean dry debris (dust and dirt) and wet messes. (spills and stains) without having to switch machines. These multitaskers are great for making time and effort. They're also great for those with a hectic schedule.
Certain robots are operated via an app and come with more features. For instance this model features an obstacle course map that shows our course which is a key selling feature. You can also make use of the app to plan and modify cleaning schedules modify mopping settings and check the level of battery. Some models also provide voice activation, like this model that works with Alexa for hands-free control.
If you're looking for a robot mop or vacuum, ensure that it has the features you are looking for. While all models push a pad of water across floors, some have scrubbers that can be used to clean grout or a rotating brush roll to provide more intensive scrub. Some models have filters that can be cleaned or replaced to reduce smells.
Some mopping robots discard their dirty pads and place them into a base that automatically emptys into a garbage drawer, eliminating the need to wash the pads manually or refill the tank. Some mopping robots, such as the Noesis Florio have reusable pads you can wash and dry between uses. If you opt for a model with reusable pads, make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions about drying and washing them in order to ensure they look the best.
